Visiting Pitlochry

pft

"There are plenty of theatres with a claim to having beautiful settings, but few are as delightful as that enjoyed by the Pitlochry Festival Theatre." Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, June 2011

No matter what the season, looking out from the Theatre, you can’t fail to get all misty eyed as your gaze is inevitably carried downstream from the swirling churn of the Dam to the smooth flowing Tummel River then across, up and over the tree lined shores to the top of Quartz mountain, Ben–y-Vrackie.

If it’s clear up there, then it’s said that rain is on the way. Of course, if you can’t see the peak itself, then it’s already raining!

Our weather, often in a constant state of flux, is both humbling and inspiring. From the Theatre’s vantage point – offering one of the ‘Best Views in Scotland’ (The Scotsman, April 2008), we welcome sunshine and rainfall, early morning mists and wild winds from the four corners of the world as they continue to shape the landscape that is Highland Perthshire’s hillsides, forests and lochs. You can appreciate any weather whilst you sip a freshly ground coffee and handmade cake or enjoy a pre-theatre dinner in the Festival Restaurant.

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
