Martyn James

It is with very great regret that we have to announce that Martyn James, a stalwart of the Pitlochry stage for the last 35 years, passed away yesterday, 3rd January, 2012.  martyn-james_2008Martyn had been battling serious illness for over a year and after putting up a valiant fight, he is now, finally, at peace.

This news has been met with great sadness by everyone who worked with Martyn at the Theatre in the Hills, and we have no doubt that this reaction which will be shared by our audiences throughout Scotland and beyond when this loss becomes more widely known.

A true man of the theatre, a peerless and highly skilled performer, and a loyal friend, Martyn will be forever remembered not just for his work on the Pitlochry stage, but also for his great spirit, his generosity and his good humour. Martyn's contribution to PFT over the last four decades was immense and he will be very greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him, work with him and love him.

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
